Approval of SonySugar HR Instruments in the Offing As SCAC Visits the Company

The Board of Directors and Management of SonySugar hosted the State Corporations Advisory Committee (SCAC), the government agency mandated to review the affairs of State Corporations and advise His Excellency the President on the status. The two-day visit happened on the 8th and 9th July, 2024 at the Company Headquarters, Awendo.

The SCAC’s aim was to ascertain the actual positions and levels of staffing, in regards to the Human Resource (HR) Instruments submitted to them in October 2023.

The HR Instruments comprising the Organizational Structure, Grading Structure, Staff Establishment, and Career Guidelines, had been forwarded to SCAC by the Board of Directors for consideration and advice last year.

SCAC Board Chairperson Mr. Patrick Mong'ony, expressed satisfaction with the efforts of the Board and Management in crafting the Instruments. "Our visit here is for witnessing and confirming your ability to accommodate the proposed structure and staffing, today and in the future." he said. The other SCAC Board members present were Joseph Machiri, Claire Wanyama, Evans Luka, and Hon Lukas Mogoa. Also present was Eliud Mathu, a HR technocrat.

SonySugar Board chairman Hon. Jared Kopiyo, urged SCAC to expedite the approval process of the Instruments. He said the Instruments will enable the Company to competitively fill vacant positions and motivate the staff. He said the staff who are acting in their positions may be confirmed so as to make them fully accountable for the actions and decisions they make in the office.

Hon. Kopiyo was accompanied by Directors Kipkoech Kirui and Laura Abishag Matiko. Managing Director Mr. Martine Dima, assured SCAC that the Instruments will breathe fresh life in the workforce and hence impact productivity and profitability. He said his mission is to make SonySugar a profit making entity and therefore requested for the much needed support in approving the Instruments.

Earlier in the day, Mr. Dima had received yet another vehicle (Toyota double-cabin) which had been towed away by auctioneers last year following a court award. Since he took over the office in May this year, the MD initiated Alternative Dispute Resolution mechanisms to settle the grievances against the Company. The interventions are steadily bearing fruits.
