SonySugar Employees Plant 10,000 trees to Mark National Tree Growing Day

Over 1,500 employees of SonySugar planted 10,000 tree seedlings to mark the National Tree Growing Day on 10th May 2024. The day was declared a public holiday by President William Ruto, and dedicated to honoring the Kenyans who have lost lives and property in the current ravaging floods in the country.

Board of Directors chairman Hon Jared Kopiyo led the exercise, which saw the planting of gravellier, casuarina, eucalyptus, fruit, and ornamental tree seedlings within the nucleus estate. “Our target in this financial year’s performance contract is 45,000 trees. So far we have planted 25,000. We intend to hit and even surpass the target by June 5th when we observe the World Environment Day.” Said Hon. Kopiyo.

The acting managing director, James Oluoch, revealed plans to give tree seedlings to employees to also plant in their rural homes to replicate the same efforts in the villages. The company maintains a modern tree nursery for the production of seedlings for afforestation and CSR endeavors.
