SonySugar Launches Strategic Plan Projecting a Legacy of Success

It was pomp and colour at the official launch SonySugar’s Strategic Plan 2024-2029 on 24th April, 2025 at the SonySugar Guest House grounds. Songs, dances, chants, ululations and speeches dominated the well-attended event that attracted leaders, management, staff, farmers, the clergy, customers, and learners from SonySugar Comprehensive School, SonySugar Complex and SonySugar Nursery, who entertained guests with myriads of engrossing items
The chief guest, Hon. Eng. Nicholas Gumbo, the chairman The Kenya Sugar Board, congratulated the board, management, staff and the entire SonySugar fraternity for collaboratively crafting a forward looking document that reflects the company’s commitment to continual growth, operational excellence, and stakeholder value creation. “As the board in charge of regulation of the sugar sector, I promise to support this organization in realizing all the set targets in the document.” Eng. Gumbo said.
Addressing the occasion, the chairman of SonySugar board of directors, Hon. Jared Kopiyo, revealed that the strategic plan document projects a solid legacy of restoration of SonySugar’s sweetness. He said that the company has projected the amount of cane to be milled to move from the current 410,000 tc in 2024/2025 FY to 635,000 tc in the fifth year of 2028/2029 FY, which shall be an increase of 55% from the first to the fifth year of this Strategic Plan. In terms of gross turnover, he said, the Company has projected growth from the current Ksh 4,927,062,000) to Ksh 6,464,483,000 in the 2028/2029 Financial Year, representing a growth of 31%.
Commenting on projected turnover and profit, the Managing Director, Martine Dima, stated that our profit is envisaged to move from Ksh 24,936,343 currently to Ksh 498,154,089 in the 2028/2029 FY. The projected growth of cane area in the outgrowers sector, he said, will move from 6,100 hectares to 12,100 hectares in the fifth year of this Strategic Plan. “I want to commit that as we implement this realistic and achievable roadmap, my Management will ensure meticulous planning, effective execution, and continuous monitoring to enable us to achieve the desired outcomes.” Mr. Dima said.
The event was also addressed by the Kenya National Federation of Sugarcane Farmers led by Mr. Ezra Olodi, Kenya Union of Sugarcane Plantation and Allied Workers (KUSPAW) Awendo branch chairman Tom Kongere and members of SonySugar Board: Kipkoech Kirui, Silas Jakakimba, Elizabeth Shungula, Laura Matiko and Catherine Wangamati among other invited guests.
