South Nyanza Sugar Company Ltd has taken the Agricultural Societies of Kenya (ASK) Kisumu Regional Show by storm after winning four best and one second best prizes at the Kisumu Regional Show. The exhibitions were held at the Mamboleo Show Grounds from 24th to 28th July, 2024.

SonySugar returned to the competition arena after seven years, having last participated at the shows in July 2017. It was the only sugar manufacturing company to ever participate in this year’s exhibitions.

The Company won in the following categories:-

  1. Best Local Manufacturer Stand (Consumable)
  2.  Best Agro processing Stand
  3. Best Large Trade Stand (Commercial and industrial)
  4. Best Sugar Industry Stand
  5. Second Best Most Striking Display (Demonstration of locally manufactured products)

The coveted trophies were presented by the Principal Secretary for Agriculture and Livestock Development Dr Paul Ronoh, to the Chairman of the Board of Directors Hon Jared Kopiyo and the Managing Director Mr. Martine Dima. Dr Ronoh was the Chief Guest during the climax of the exhibitions on Friday 26th July, 2024.

The other corporates at the show included Kenya Prisons Service, Kenya Ports Authority, KCB Bank, KEPHIS, KALRO, Kenya Seed, Lake Basin Development Authority, Agro Chemical and Food Company, and an avalanche of public and private companies, organizations and SMEs.

Dr Ronoh praised SonySugar's stellar performance and congratulated the Board, Management and staff for their effort. Hon Kopiyo assured SonySugar stakeholders that the company is on the right development trajectory, the sentiments also shared by the Managing Director, Mr. Dima, who announced that all the historical debts owed to farmers have now been cleared. This, the MD said, was attributable to the bailout by the Government and internal revenues. “We now pay farmers for the cane delivered within one month.” He said.

The Directors present included Prof Eric Osenya, Kipkoech Kirui, Mary Were, and Catherine Wangamati. Others were Laura Abishag Matiko, Humphrey Muhu, Douglas Kailanya, and Tobias Osano.
